The Mechanicals formed in 2016 around a set of songs set to Shakespearean words. They have gone on to put verse by various poets to song, most recently the words of Philip Larkin in their album The Righteous Jazz. The band and music also featured in a theatrical production of the same name about the poet’s life which premiered at Hull Truck in 2019. The CD of The Righteous Jazz is available on the Philip Larkin Society website shop and via the band’s Bandcamp page.
Fronted by vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Wes Finch and featuring the formidable musicianship of John Parker (double bass), Katrin Gilbert (viola) and Ben Haines (percussion), the ensemble bring poems off the page and to life in vibrant melody and song.
Recently they have released various songs and commissions via their Bandcamp site and via Wes’s Patreon page and continue to work with the Philip Larkin Society, contributing to their Youtube channel and performing at various Society related events.
Also  performances by ace blues guitarist/singer Jamie Scott and acclaimed line-up, Liam Vincent & The Odd Foxes, featuring singer and violin-player, Rebecca Mileham
