Joe O’Donnell’s Shkayla           5 Argyll Street, Coventry CV2 4FJ

Press Release

12th September for immediate release

Folk and Rock legends team up for major Coventry concert.

Legends of English and Irish folk and rock join forces to present an evening of spellbinding music in Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre on Saturday 26th October.

Singer with the chart-topping group Pentangle, Jacqui McShee appears with her new all-star band, Circle on a billing shared with electric fiddle maestro Joe O’Donnell and his highly talented Celtic fusion line-up Shkayla.

The theatre’s B2 stage in Coventry’s City Centre is an appropriate setting for this one-off concert as both acts have strong connections with the currently appointed City of Culture.

The line-up of Circle includes veteran guitarist Kevin Dempsey, founder member of cult progressive band Dando Shaft and long-time Coventry resident. Kevin has worked with many of the world’s top artists including Alice Coltrane, Dave Swarbrick, Mary Black and has recently toured UK venues as a duo with Jacqui.

Limerick-born but now Coventry-based Joe O’Donnell has a musical pedigree spanning Celtic folk, rock and music from North Africa and India. He has worked with leading progressive acts East of Eden, Thin Lizzie and the late Rory Gallagher who was featured on Joe’s seminal album Gael’s Vision, combining original orchestral composition, traditional Celtic music and contemporary rock.

Shkayla’s bass-player and one of the organisers, Adrian Litvinoff says: ‘This will be a high-powered concert of the finest folk-related music from two veterans at the top of their game.

‘We hope to revive the profile of progressive folk music in Coventry and we’re delighted to have support from Arts Council England to help achieve this.

‘We are also working closely with CVFolk, a campaign launched by members of the Coventry and Warwickshire folk music and dance scene who share our vision of a folk revival right here in our City of Culture.’

The concert kicks off at 7.30pm and tickets (£16 – £14 concessions) can be booked at the Belgrade Box Office on 02476 553055 or on
